Korean Bilingual Program
Campsie Public School is proud to host the only Department-funded Korean Bilingual Program in New South Wales. The program provides students with the opportunity to learn Korean while studying the regular NSW curriculum through a bilingual approach.
In addition to Korean, our school offers three community languages and five other languages through the Languages Other Than English (LOTE) program and language clubs. Many students study one additional language alongside English, and some choose to study more than one.
Program Background
The Primary Bilingual Schools Program in New South Wales was established in 2010 with four pilot schools. These schools introduced language immersion and integrated language learning in the early years of schooling, with the programs expanding as students progressed through primary school.
Teaching Approach
The Korean Bilingual Program at Campsie Public School is delivered through a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach. This method enables students to learn curriculum content — such as Science and Technology, and Creative Arts — in Korean for five hours each week.
CLIL programs have a strong positive impact on students’ language development and engagement while maintaining high standards in content learning. The approach also promotes deeper thinking, problem-solving, and intercultural understanding.
Pathways to High School
Campsie Public School has established strong partnerships with Burwood Girls High School, Strathfield Girls High School, and Homebush Boys High School. These quality, high-achieving public high schools welcome applications from students who have completed five consecutive years in the Korean Bilingual Program. Through these partnerships, students can continue their Korean language studies beyond primary school and build on the bilingual foundation established at Campsie.
